International Technical Missions to the Government of Bangladesh

Matchmaking Brazil advises the Government of Bangladesh in the organization of official missions of Government representatives to various localities and with different objectives. In all cases, the missions seek to broaden the knowledge on good practices adopted by governmental entities from different countries to implement new public policies in Bangladesh and establish new business opportunities.

Economic Information on Bangladesh

Bangladesh, or formally the People's Republic of Bangladesh, is an Asian country, geographically surrounded by India, as well as having a small border area with Myanmar.

The country's economy has grown about 6.5% a year since 1996. This growth is driven largely by exports of apparel and agriculture products.

Over the years, Bangladesh has expanded its industrialization oriented to international trade, particularly in the textile, shipbuilding, fish and shellfish production, jute and leather goods sectors. The country also developed the pharmaceutical sector, steel production and food processing.

Bangladesh has substantial reserves of natural gas. It is the seventh largest gas producer in Asia and has offshore exploration activities in the Bay of Bengal. It also has large lime deposits.

Main exports (2018): Europe (58.2%), the United States (16.3%), Japan (3.1%), Canada (3%) and India (2.4%).

Main imports (2018): China (21.5%), India (12.2%), Singapore (9.2%), European Union (6.2) and Hong Kong (5.5%).


Bangladesh is strategically important for the economies of northeastern India, Nepal and Bhutan, as the ports of Bangladesh provide maritime access to these regions and landlocked countries. In addition, China also sees Bangladesh as a potential gateway to the southwestern part of the country, including Tibet, Sichuan (one of China's major industrial centers) and Yunnan.

March 2019: Official visit to South Africa and the Mauritius Islands

In order to know the functionalities of the e-procurement system, representatives of the government of Bangladesh, composed of high-level officials of the Procurement Division, which is under the Department of Local Government Engineering (LGED) - Ministry of Local Government, Development Rural and Cooperatives visited South Africa and the Mauritius Islands.

March 2019: Technical Mission to Estonia and Sweden

A group of high-ranking officials from the Cabinet Division traveled to Estonia and Sweden with the aim of learning about the best practices in terms of public policies on the registration of births and deaths.

November 2018: Visit to France and Switzerland

A group of high ranking authorities from the Ministry of Chittagong Hill and the District Council Bandarban Hill visited France and Switzerland, led by Mr. Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing. Minister of State, Ministry of Affairs of Chittagong Hill. The trip had the objective of learning the best practices in Construction of sustainable buildings, including Interior Design, Operations and Maintenance.

August 2018: Technical Trip to Tanzania and Kenya

A group of high level authorities of the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) traveled to Tanzania and Kenya to learn about the best practices on the legal structure and administrative aspects of public procurement and electronic purchases.

June 2018: Training at Kenyatta University, in Nairobi – Kenya

Course on "Good Government in Public Administration" for representatives of the Cabinet of the Prime Minister

June 2018: Official trip to Germany

Representatives from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Ministry of Planning visited Germany for meetings and technical visits related to animal reproduction / progeny testing methodology.

July 2018: Visit to Canada and the United States

Delegation of senior officials of the Procurement Division, which is under the Department of Local Government Engineering (LGED) - Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Meetings with government representatives and academia as to learn about the best practices and challenges of government electronic procurement (e-procurement).

May 2018: Technical visit to Norway

A group of authorities from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of the Government of Bangladesh visited Norway for meetings and technical visits regarding the salmon fish production in cages.

January and February 2018: technical trip to Brazil, Argentina and Chile

The objective of the technical mission was to learn about the program of modernization of postal services and to learn about public policies regarding the use of renewable energies, particularly solar energy in urban areas. More information.

January 2018: Trip to the United Kingdom from the Minister of Planning of the Government of Bangladesh, and equipment.

The purpose of the trip was to meet representatives of the Crown Commercial Services (British Government) for the improvement of the electronic procurement system of the Government of Bangladesh.

January 2018: Training in Best Practices in Project Management in France.

November 2017: Technical mission to Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia -representatives of the Department of Public Health Engineering, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives

November 2017: Technical mission to the United States and Canada, with the objective of learning about the Housing and Urban Development Policies in North America

Delegation composed of representatives from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works; Ministry of Planning; and the Chittagong Development Authority. More information.
